This is one of my favorite times of the year, when we launch our Classic Children’s Summer Book Club! What started as a fun idea has grown into an incredible, enriching, encouraging community of families across the country who are looking for intentional ways to connect with their children during the summer. And I’m so excited that registration for 2022 DoSayGive’s Classic Children’s Summer Book Club is now officially open!

I’m always surprised at how popular this little book club of ours is year after year. It tells me that parents, grandparents, and caregivers are looking for new ways to cultivate curiosity in their children, instill a love of reading at an early age, and make meaningful memories with their families. All centered around wonderful children’s literature!
We’ve curated a list of more than 80 books and coordinating activities the whole family will love — and set the price to just $24.99 for the whole summer! I’m so excited about this and my hope is that as many families as possible are able to enjoy an enriching summer.
What’s different about this year’s club?
By popular request, we’re bringing back our private membership site from the early years of the Summer Book Club. And even better, it’s filled with more helpful resources than ever before.
Community is a big focus for our Book Club this year, too. We want to be a place of encouragement for parents as they sift through the endless (and not always great) book options available on Amazon — so we’ll have resources on our membership site to help with that and various other parenting topics, like ways to break the “screen cycle” with our children. Our members-only, private Instagram page is new this year, too, and will be another spot for encouragement and ideas throughout the summer, but a place to connect with other families as well!
The Activities
Our activities are tailored to the weekly themes and each week’s activities include:
- Outside activities to encourage a love of nature
- Arts and crafts activities to encourage creativity
- Cooking activities for the whole family to enjoy
- Building and construction activities to foster imagination
I hope that these books and activities will give you some structure for those long, hot summer days, whether you choose to do all the activities or just one a week.
While we’re officially kicking things off on June 6, families are welcome to start at any point during the summer!
That’s the best part about the Book Club: You can do as much or as little as you like! It’s a go-at-your-own-pace club — great for families who plan to travel this summer, have summer camps, or need a break from the hustle and bustle. It’s truly whatever works best for your family! If you do join after June 6, I’d encourage you to jump in where we are — then go back and do the first weeks once the Book Club ends.
As soon as you register, you’ll receive a link to our membership site where you’ll be able to download the 2022 Book & Activity Guide with everything included for the whole summer. That way, you’ll have plenty of time before summer to start planning and gathering your books and take a look at our outing suggestions in case you want to work into your summer plans! You’ll also get access to NEW our private Instagram group where we are going to be sharing tips and resources all summer long for encouraging curiosity and a love of reading in your children. .
I answer these question every year, but they’re certainly worth restating.
Why classic books?
Much like we choose the healthiest foods for our children’s bodies, I believe most parents want to put the best of the best in their children’s minds. Many of the classic books we share in our Classic Children’s Summer Book Club emphasize good, lovely, noble, and virtuous storylines, are full of rich language, and include beautiful illustrations.
Sadly, many of these wonderful books are missing from school libraries and big-box book stores, so we’re excited to spotlight them this summer. We’ve also included some newer books with the same high standards as some of the classics.
Overall, this series will give you a solid foundation for choosing better books, whether new or old!
What is unique about this book club?
It’s enriching. The books we’ve selected will broaden your child’s view of the world. Paired with simple coordinating activities, your child will learn history and art, explore nature, and gain a broader perspective. They’ll also grow their vocabulary and language through their exposure to quality text.
It’s relational. Sharing books with your child or grandchild is one of the most important and precious way stop spend your time! You will surely find new books that will become family favorites while also creating special family memories (without spending a lot of money).
It’s fun! Good books spark the imagination of a child. Unstructured play is so important in childhood, too, and I’ve found that when my children have wonderful stories in their heads, their imaginations soar. I hope these books will be the catalysts for many adventures!
I can’t wait to read with you this summer!
