There are certain things that every lady needs in their wardrobe: A classic black dress, a great pair of jeans, a crisp button-down white shirt. But we’d argue that the foundation is just as important, if not more so. Things like shapewear, bras, and even socks get lost in the ‘wardrobe must-haves’ conversation, so today we wanted to share what we think are the most important undergarments that every lady of a certain age needs to have (besides underwear, of course!). Today we are rounding them up plus sharing many options on sale right now!
1. The Right Bra
First things first, every lady needs a properly fitted bra, including a t-shirt bra and a strapless bra. Some of our favorites are on sale right now so we’ve linked them below:
2. Shapewear
Shapewear has come such a long way since the days of the “girdle”, mostly thanks to Spanx! Shapewear is used to smooth things out and is often worn under cocktail attire and slim-fitting clothes. The kind you need depends on the clothing but this best-selling Spanx shapewear has seen me through many years and many dresses! And it’s currently on sale in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you were going to buy one piece, this would be it. Here are some other useful shapewear options:
3. A Camisole
Under a white blouse or low-cut dress, a camisole is a necessity. These are great to have in both in nude and black. All of these are on sale today, too!
4. A Good Slip
Slips are essential when a dress or skirt is too opaque. It helps a dress not catch on your body as well and move more beautifully. A half-slip and full-body slip will serve you well for work and social occasions. These all come in multiple colors:
5. Pantyhose + Socks
Pantyhose aren’t worn very much anymore but there are occasions that arise when you will be glad you had some tucked away in your drawers. (And they do smooth things out nicely!) Also, no-show socks are an essential with trendy sneakers and flats.
